Pieta Shrine

After having the old Pieta statue restored in the back of Holy Family Church in Columbus, Father decided that it should be housed in a more fitting shrine.  The new piece is designed to match the existing high and side altars in the church.  It will be painted to match those altars as well.

Shown above are the rough sketches of the project.  The first photo shows the complete shrine.  The side wings of the shrine are intended to house golden roses being left at the shrine as ex voto offerings for favors granted through the Sorrowful Mother’s intercession.  The second photo is an up-close detail of what will be the hand-carved center piece on the base of the shrine – an image specifically requested by Father.

Here are the carvings in process.

The first phase finished and installed in the church.  A close up of the acanthus leaf carving detail.
