This confessional restoration project included a hand-carved screen. Gothic style carving was requested to match the existing confessional.
Shown here is an early rough sketch of the design.
On the right panel you can see the pencil sketch, with holes punched and ready for the saw. This stage is always a favorite with the kids, who tell me it looks like “Swiss cheese.”
Toward the bottom of the left panel you can see the flat cutouts. The top section has some carving details finished.
Here the lighting is better for you to see a bit more of the depth of the carving detail on the left panel. The right panel has been cut out and is now ready for carving.
